MoBE mute on unemployed graduates

At a press briefing on Wednesday at Botswana Sector of Educators Trade Union (BOSETU) offices, public relations officer of the movement, Prince Gaothuse said the petition sent to the Ministry was in regard to issues affecting the teaching sector.
He said the result of not paying attention to curb such problems results in issues of unemployment as more graduates stay at home with no future.
Gaothuse said they sent the petition and gave the ministry 20 days to respond, but the ministry has not done so after the agreed period.
He furthermore mentioned that the petition covered a number of issues that required urgency especially looking at the number of unemployed graduates who roam the streets.
“As a movement, we are highly concerned about this matter. What we are facing not only affects us in the teaching sector, but also the nation at large. “This is a national crisis. That is what we stated in a petition to the ministry and we agreed with them to respond within 20 working days, which has now elapsed.
Even though there is no communication from the ministry we are not sitting idle. We will make things happen by sending an issue letter to the relevant committees to call the ministry to hear our case,” Gaothuse said.
The movement’s chairperson, Kesaobaka Ditshike said they wanted to seek a presentation of how they will tackle the issue at hand within the teaching sector by sending in the petition with the list of problems.
They also wanted to advise how the ministry can handle this problem within the teaching sector. Ditshike, who has been unemployed since 2015, further said one of the problems is having more expatriates in private schools, which is also a problem that should be attended to.
