Masisi, who is also the chairman of the BDP made the stern warning on Saturday here at the southern region congress.

Masisi said social media has the potential to tarnish the image of the ruling party, which has been in power since Independence. He said they should rather use social media to attract youth membership.

“Do not use Facebook to attack fellow BDP members, rather use it to spread Government programmes to attract more membership to the party. Recruit from the opposition because they are hard workers and they normally come in groups,” he advised.

Masisi further advised the party membership to unite ahead of the party’s national congress in July.  He urged them to respect their leaders and to be active in party activities.  He also declared that he submitted his name and he will stand for election to retain the chairmanship at the July congress.

Southern region chairman, Andrew Mopipi also urged BDP members to uphold the party’s constitution and support winners to move the party forward.  He said the BDP lost most of the by-elections because of sabotage by party members whose favourite candidates lost in primary elections.

“Let us forgive each other and move forward.  Disciplinary action will be taken against those who sabotage the party, especially posting untrue stories and tarnishing the good name of the BDP on social media,” he warned.

Member of Central Committee for South West region, Botlogile Tshireletso also told BDP members to compromise their interests for the sake of the party. She said they should benchmark good deeds from the opposition party that keep them united.

Tshireletso advocated for recruitment and registration of new members, especially women and the youth.  She said these groups should also activate their committees and deliver the mandate of the party.

“Let’s recruit in good faith and not tarnish fellow members’ names during our campaigns and respect each other. I will also like to officially present to you the Vice President Mokgweetsi Masisi as our candidate for the party chairmanship for July. He needs your vote,” she said.

Meanwhile, the party welcomed 31 new members from Mokhomma, two from Sekoma, and four from Kgalagadi ward in Jwaneng, who defected from the opposition.
