Three die in road accident

Acting officer commanding for No.13 and district administration officer, Paul Oketsang told Mmegi that two cars collided by the traffic lights near GIPS and three people died on the spot.

“The accident took place early morning between 02:30 and 02:45 when the two cars collided by the traffic lights in which one car from the eastern side along A12 road and one from northern side of Pula Spar Mall,” Oketsang said.

Oketsang said one car had two people on board, the driver and a female passenger who died on the spot, and another carrying four people in which a passenger and the driver also died on the spot.

“Three survivors being two passengers and the driver who was from the eastern part sustained serious injuries and are currently hospitalised at Bokamoso Private Hospital.

The deceased are two males

and a female,” Oketsang said. He said that investigations are still ongoing to establish the cause of the accident, but it appears as if one of the drivers failed to stop by the traffic lights and ended up colliding with another vehicle.

“We do not have concrete evidence of what might have transpired, but we are still investigating the matter,” Oketsang said.

He said that the names of the deceased are still withheld until their next of kins are notified. He added that road accidents in his area of jurisdiction are now becoming worrisome because many lives are lost, especially young lives.

He pleaded with drivers to be cautious at all times and to reduce speed when approaching traffic lights to avoid unnecessary accidents that continue to claim lives.

“Drivers should be cautious at all times because they might not know what is happening on the other side, especially by the traffic lights,” Oketsang said.

He said that they are trying all they can to caution people about the dangers of reckless driving on the roads, but it seems like their message is falling on deaf ears.

“People are continuing to overspeed and drink while driving, something that puts their lives in danger despite our continued education,” Oketsang said.
