The victories come two weeks after the Molefhi camp clinched key positions at the BOMASE region. In Francistown, the  Molefhi camp won the chairman and secretary general posts through Baemedi Medupe and Douglas Letsholathebe as they swept the board.

Masisi sympathiser, James Kgalajwe could only muster 67 votes against Medupe’s 80 for the chairmanship at the Francistown region elections over the weekend, where Kudzani Tobokani garnered 54 votes to  Letsholathebe’s 87 for secretary general. In Gaborone,  the pro-Molefhi camp won two key positions on Saturday at the Gaborone regional congress that was held at Cresta Lodge.

Regional chairpersons and and their secretary generals cast votes along with councillors and MPs.   Masisi will be challenged by Molefhi for chairmanship.

Gaborone region will be led by MacDonald Peloetetse as chairperson and Ontibile Kgomoyarona as secretary general.  Treasurer post was won by Aaron Mokgethi while his vice is Lespy Mosope. Deputy secretary is Foster Seretse and vice chairman is Christopher Nthuba.

The last three regional elections have given the Molefhi camp the belief that  they can go all out and challenge for the chairmanship of the party with confidence.

The recently acquired three regions, put to seven the Molefhi’s camp’s sure regions, with the other four being  the two  Kweneng regions, North East and South East, with the latter’s elections scheduled for June this year.

Meanwhile  the newly elected chairperson, Peloetetse said they would ensure that there is party visibility in Gaborone.

“Gaborone constituencies are different from other regions and have unique challenges. Our constituencies are strongholds for the opposition and therefore our strategy should be different from other regions. One of the key things that as the new committee we want to address first is to try to unite the democrats. Our members are not united, something that opposition parties take advantage of,” Peloetetse said.

He said the unity could help them to cooperate and work together as party members.

Peloetetse assured the party members that they would working hand-in-hand with party leadership and they hope it would also work with them to revive the party in Gaborone.

He continued: “One of our aims is to sit down with trade Unions to find a way of addressing their problems. There is no way our party could win these areas if we keep ignoring trade Unions. Our committee will take Union problems to the party’s motherbody.”
