Police spokesperson Witness Bosija confirmed that they are investigating an alleged armed robbery case in which government money was taken in Shorobe village about 30 kilometres from Maun. He said he was not at liberty to divulge further details or the amount stolen.

Mmegi understands that a police officer and two North West District revenue officers, who were in possession of the said cash, are being questioned by police as part of investigations.

The money was intended for payments of Ipelegeng workers in Xharaga, Matsaudi and Shorobe villages who are now in the lurch.  Mmegi understands that the robbery happened around 9pm on March 3.

A source in Shorobe who asked for anonymity explained that the revenue officers and the police officer camped at Botswana Post agency in Shorobe for the night in preparation for payments the following day.

He explained that unknown assailants armed with a gun attacked the officers, and made away with the cash. According to the source the incident happened quickly and nobody saw anything except the footprints, showing that the robbers used a car, which picked them up behind a nearby cattle kraal.

Police investigations are continuing.
