Miscellaneous fight back to beat Nico

Miscellaneous trailed after Remmington Masuku gave the hosts an early lead. However, the lead lasted just 14 minutes before Moodley Njeleza levelled matters from a header after the Nico goalkeeper needlessly conceded a corner kick.

The boys from Serowe took the lead through a beautiful volley from Moyenga Chakova who masterfully controlled the ball with his chest before he unleashed a volley that stunned the hosts.

Chakova’s display was perhaps the only glimpse of flare in a lukewarm game that lacked intrigue and spectacle expected from a Premiership encounter. Even though Miscellaneous edged Nico to make a giant leap from relegation zone to position 11 on the log with 21 points, their runs lacked tactic and direction.

They lived true to the adjective that is their name, ‘miscellaneous’, making all kinds of haphazard passes that strayed to their opponents.

However, their opponents were far worse. Possession was cheap and they did not struggle to breakthrough Miscellaneous’ defence.  They created many scoring opportunities that they simply failed to convert. They repeatedly caught Tse Nala’s defence napping and found the gaps, but all the times they fired blanks.

Nico, however, is a frustrated team. The players are in their third month without salaries, a development that could easily demoralise the team.

As evidence of the team being in serious trouble was the absence of head coach, Dean Mwiinde on the bench after his suspension this week.

Instead, Mwiinde was sitting on the stands while Peter Muchina led the team as interim coach assisted by Sunday Kelebale.

Muchina, however, said the mood in his camp is very positive. He believes that his team will survive relegation. He ascribed the loss to lack of composure, something that he will have to work hard to instil in his players as the man in charge, at least for the time being.

“We created so many chances, but we failed to convert them, so it did not work for us. There was a problem of composure. We are in position 14, but we are not yet out,” Muchina, who remains optimistic of surviving relegation, said.

Nico sit in the bottom three in position 14 above Mahalapye Hotspurs and Green Lovers in position 15 and 16 respectively.
