Three men busted with dead pangolin

The State alleges that traditional doctor Pene Seleme, musician Molatedi Kgosietsile and a self-employed man, Reuben Kekana, were unlawfully found in possession of the pangolin cadaver on December 12, 2016 in Francistown.

State prosecutor Atina Mandigo applied for the charge to be read to the accused and their pleas taken. All the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Seleme’s attorney Kenneth Obeng applied for his client’s car, that was confiscated by the police, to be returned to him.

Mandigo told the court that he did not object to the accused being given bail provided they entered in to their own recognisance an amount of P1,000 each. He added that he was not against the application for Seleme to be given back his car.

Chief Magistrate Gaedupe Makgato granted the accused bail on condition that they enter in to their own recognissance of P1,000 each.

“An order is made that the police shall return the first accused’s car. He shall avail the car before court during trial whenever it is needed,” said Makgato.

The accused are due in court before the matter’s substantive Magistrate, Dumisane Basupi, on April 7 for another mention.
