Maxy, who boasts of 13 albums in her 18 years career told the media on Wednesday that she will headline the show that also boasts international artists like Pure Gold.
“I want other artists to be inspired by this. I have long wanted to do this,” she said. She said the venue at Tlotlo will only accommodate 900 people and only 600 tickets will be sold. “I know it’s a small number and Batswana want to see me perform,” she said. The makorakoretsa hit maker said she was proud to have artists like Johnny Mokhali in the line-up because they paved a way for her career when she was young.
“I grew up listening to these people and they proved that someone can make a career out of music,” she said. She also hailed Banjo Mosele who is also in the line-up as an inspiration.
“I am excited to share the stage with these legends. Pure Gold worked with Brenda Fassie who was my mentor and biggest inspiration. People say they see her in me” she said proudly. Maxy, who is also known as the ‘queen of sands’ said she considers herself as a living proof that the music industry is not bad. She said she managed to bond with be careful hitmakers, Double Trouble from South Africa, who are also lined for the show. “Freddie Gwala of amadamara fame will also be here. This is the man whose music was responsible for uniting parents, my mother used to love the song and it is still special,” she said.
Maxy stated that the reason she hosted her show in Botswana is because the appreciation in Botswana is unlike any other. “I have gone abroad, but Batswana’s support after all these years amazes me. I have been juggling a lot of genres for a long time and they still love what I do,” she acknowledged.
She said those who have not heard all her music will get to hear the other side of her music because it would be a live show.
For his part, Solly Reikeletseng from Medumo Entertainment said they have put together the best live band in the country and it will include Banjo Mosele and other two international artists. “Maxy has started rehearsing and she will be perfect to watch. I have also seen Johnny Mokhali’s rehearsal,” he said.
He said it is unfortunate that the event would only accommodate as few as 900 people. Reikeletseng acknowledged that with One Night Motlha show the venue, which is Boipuso Hall, had bad acoustics.
He said this time they will have a world-class sound. He also said they did not include any sponsor in the event because the latter clouds artists. “We made a sacrifice to promote something that works,” he said.
