He has been sidelined for the team’s encounters against Miscellaneous and Green Lovers.

Against Miscellaneous yesterday, Peter Muchina and former captain, Monametsi Kelebale were in charge.

They will also hold the fort against another Serowe side, Green Lovers on Saturday.  Mwiinde received his suspension letter following a string of poor results, which have left Nico United in a precarious situation.

“His contract is performance-based and we have lost many games now.

We are in a bad position and we have to try different strategies and see if we cannot turn things around,” club spokesperson, Mogomotsi ‘Ace’ Orapeleng told Mmegi Sport yesterday.

Before yesterday’s match against Miscellaneous, Nico had won only four games this season. They drew three and lost 1.

The last time they tasted a victory was in December when they won 3-2 against Green Lovers. Orapeleng said the management took a decision to suspend Mwiinde for two games and will see what to do thereafter.

He said Mwiinde has cited reasons such as low motivation among players for the poor run. Nico have been struggling financially since they lost the BCL sponsorship. They also lost several key players among them Gift Moyo, Nelson Moreetsi and Khumoetsile Kufigwa.

However Orapeleng admitted that although that has also contributed to the team’s poor run, other Premier League sides in the same financial situations are doing much better on the field.

He said they spoke to the players as well about the situation they find themselves in.

He said some supporters and other business people in the mining town have been extending a financial helping hand to the team.

“We have a meeting this week with the supporters where we will discuss the team’s situation and find ways of dealing with it. We will be self-introspecting from the management, coaching staff and supporters to see how we can tackle this situation,” he said.

Nico are in the relegation zone in position 14 with 15 points.
