Elephants seen around Mahalapye

Other elephants suspected to be about 3-5 in number were also

spotted at Medie in Kweneng, and Dikgonnye, Masama in Kgatleng

officers who have been tracking them and are working on driving

them away from settlements and villages. The DWNP will continue to

monitor the situation, and take appropriate action. The public is advised to exercise extra caution when in theseC areas and avoid provoking or harassing the elephants especially with dogs.

The public is requested to report to the nearest wildlife office, Kgotla or police station if they see these animals.

Furthermore the Department of Wildlife and National Parks in Francistown would like to inform members of the public in Hubona, Borolong/Shashemooke, Mathangwane cattle post and areas near Shashe Dam about the movement of hippopotamus sighted in thearea.

Members of the public in these areas are advised to be vigilant in case they come across these animals and are urged to contact the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Francistown) on 2412367/2414991 or contact nearby Police station or Kgotla offices.

Wildlife officers have been deployed to track and capture the hippopotamus for relocation.

 

The public is further advised to be cautious around rivers as due to the heavy rains more water based wildlife is expected to have moved from their usual territories into other rivers and water bodies.

 

Elephants were also spotted at Medie, Artesia at Dikgonnye village.
