Thipe

Thipe was suspended from all BoBA activities in March, just a few days before he was due to fly out, as manager, of the boxing team to the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

BoBA public relations officer, Taolo Tlouetsile said the disciplinary committee took long to convene which has delayed Thipe’s case. He however, expects a speedy resolution to the matter as Thipe has been called for a hearing next week.

Thipe was suspended for cancelling the national boxing team’s trip to Poland on March 10, without the consent and the approval of BoBA.

“Boxing is in my blood. I do not do it for incentives or rewards. Nobody can take that away from me or else I would hate that person for the rest of my life,” Thipe told Mmegi Sport. He said the decision to suspend him was taken after he cancelled the Poland trip because the team did not have visas. He said the other reason was that he was accused of meddling in technical matters after he assisted national team coach, Lechedzani ‘Master’ Luza during the Zone IV Championship in Mozambique.

“They have informed me that investigations are ongoing and I have been invited for a hearing next week (July 28). The suspension has no time frame or may be it is going to last for my entire term. But this does not scare me at all and I am relaxed,” Thipe said.

He said his suspension has only brought division within the association. Hlanganani Nkutusang Digwere is acting vice president.

During the BoBA elections, which were held last year, Thipe was in the same camp with the current president, Dr Thato Patlakwe. Their term in office ends in 2021.
