Daniel Oletile breaks kwasakwasa dominance

But with his Zion Christian Church (ZCC) songs and dance, Daniel Oletile serenaded the crowd at Tsholofelo Park last weekend, impressed the judges and emerged the overall winner in the category. He performed a song from his one and only album, Morwalela, which has 11 tracks and was released back in 2016.
Daniel Oletile, who was competing for the first time as a solo artist, walked away with the P30,000 cash prize. The artist, who was once part of a group called City Boys gospel band told Arts & Culture that he managed to win because of the band he had assembled.
“I had Tumelo Mafoko on the keyboard, Costa Sephekolo on lead guitar, Paki on Bass guitar and Kabo Koosimile who owns Galaxy Records,” he said.
Daniel Oletile said he credits his band for the win because the latter are legends and brought massive experience.
Besides that Daniel said his ability to incorporate ZCC dance moves and vocals also worked wonders for him. “I knew it was going to be tough facing kwasakwasa and jazz artists in this category so I had to pull up my socks,” he said.
Daniel Oletile said there is not much difference because he worked with the same people he engaged in the album. He said he would not participate again next time to give other upcoming artists a chance.
