Videographer with Midas touch does it again

The award is for Amantle Brown’s follo video, which also scooped best video. Last year he won the same award with Amantle Brown’s then trending black mampatile video.
This year Bohloko pocketed P75 000 coveted prize which is perhaps the most prestigious of them all at the competitions. Despite genre difference, almost every music video locally has that ‘Calculated by Jack Bohloko’ signature and you know you are in for the best production.
In a world where every Jack and Jill with a camera phone can shoot a video, it takes unique talent to have the creative vision necessary to execute a music video that stands out from all the rest. Lights, camera, action is Jack Bohloko’s routine and he is indeed pushing the envelope and creating favourite videos of local musicians.
The self-taught videographer who got his tutorials from Youtube told Arts & Culture that the award encourages him to work hard knowing that he can make income from his art.
He said the most unique aspect about his talents is the way he shoots his videos. “There is always movements in every shot. When it was standard to have stable shots in music videos, I changed that,” he said.
Jack Bohloko who studied graphic design at Limkokwing University remembers how he used to save P1,000 to buy his first camera.
“I did some gigs for free but it was until 2015 when I started getting income and I upgraded my equipment and bought drones among others,” he recalled.
A competitive spirit he is, Bohloko said there is nothing like giving others a chance declaring his intentions to continue participating in the competitions to encourage others to improve. He advised upcoming videographers to move at their own pace and not put a lot of pressure on themselves.
The award winner said he has a lot of passion for local music no wonder he had worked with some of the best the industry has to offer.
He finds working with Amantle Brown a great pleasure saying, as she is hand-on.
“We work as a team, she also plans and brings ideas on the table. It would be great if other artists could do the same.”
