Molefhe shot to prominence after he took part in the Kofukan World Cup in Bulgaria last year.

He told Mmegi Sport before his departure that he impressed the Bulgarian national team coach and his students and they wanted him to return.

“They were impressed by my performance and they want me to train with them for some days before the competition.

This is an indication that what I have been doing locally is being recognised by other countries and in a way I am building my own profile,” he said. Molefhe retired from the national team last year due to what he termed‚ “nsuitable conditions”. He said the conditions still exist within the national team and he does not see himself going back.

Molefhe said he does not have a relationship with Botswana Karate Association (BOKA) and Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC).

He said his trip to Bulgaria was made possible by financial assistance he received from various companies. He said the companies are still anonymous because he is yet to agree with them on various issues with another competition pending in Paris, France.

Molefhe became an active karateka in 1998 as a member of Glen Valley club. In 2010, he made his debut for Botswana and has been involved in training youngsters who became members of the various national teams.

Meanwhile, the second leg of the senior national karate team was held over the weekend at BOKA hall. The competition was tough, especially in the men’s kumite Under 60kg and Under 67kg.

In the first leg in the Under 60kg category, Thabang Setshego lost to Tshwaragano Mahokole. The second leg saw Mahokole knocked out in the preliminary stage of the competition.  Batlaareng Shabane battled against Setshego in the final where the latter walked away with a gold medal. Setshego is leading the category ahead of the final.
