UDC officials who will meet are those who were tasked with allocating constituencies during the coalition negotiations.

The UDC partners are the BPP, Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD), Botswana National Front (BNF) and the new entrant Botswana Congress Party (BCP).

In January the BPP wrote a letter to its UDC partners demanding to be given more constituencies instead of the four it was allocated.

The BPP has been allocated Tati East, Tati West, Serowe South and Serowe North.

The partners took time to respond which prompted a follow-up letter from the BPP written last week after the party’s executive committee meeting in Francistown.

The constituency allocation within the UDC has been a burning issue in recent days. The BPP believes that it is under represented with four constituencies and want an additional four. The BNF got 22 constituencies, BCP 17 while the BMD got 14 constituencies.

“Yes the team mandated to allocate constituencies is meeting this week. The committee will meet on Thursday. Let me say the meeting will be before the end of the week to be on the safe side,” said BPP president Motlatsi Molapise in an interview.

Molapise confirmed that the meeting would address recent demands by the BPP.

He added that the committee could have met last week Thursday but the meeting was called off as some members were said to be unavailable.

Yesterday UDC spokesperson Moeti Mohwasa told Mmegi that he is not at liberty to discuss anything relating to coalition talks with the media.

“What I can share with you is that we often meet as committees of the UDC to discuss pressing party matters,” he said.
