Dead woman discovered at Tsholofelo community hall

Ipelegeng workers discovered the body of the woman believed to be in her 30s, covered with grass at the back of the hall around 7am.

Ipelegeng supervisor, Edith Phetlhe told Mmegi in an interview at the scene of the crime that one of the employees was looking for her makeshift rake when she discovered the woman’s lifeless body hidden under a heap of grass.

“We have designed sticks that we are using as rakes because we do not have rakes,” Phetlhe said.

“She found human legs and when she looked further she discovered a woman’s corpse covered with grass. We heard her (our employee) screaming and when we rushed towards her we found the dead woman covered with grass and we immediately informed the police.”

She said the police discovered a shirt with blood hidden in the grass by the entrance of the hall.

“We suspect that the shirt might be belonging to the person who murdered her. I could not look at her because I was scared but some of the employees said she had bruises on her body and might be in her 30s,” Phetlhe said.

She said that after the shocking discovery they decided to cut the day short since the employees were traumatised.

Broadhurst station commander, superintendent Bonosi Molapisi said they received a report in the morning about a corpse that was discovered at the hall.

“On arrival the police found the corpse hidden under a heap of grass. We do not know when exactly the incident occurred and what could be the cause of the death,” he said.

Molapisi said investigations are still at an initial stage and the police have not yet established the age of the deceased and have not yet been able to trace the deceased’s family members.

It is alleged that a man was also found hanging from a tree that same morning suspected to have committed suicide.

The residents linked the man’s apparent suicide to the woman’s death suspecting that he might have killed her before taking his own life. However, the police boss denied any reports of suspected suicide in his area.

“We are not investigating any suicide case and I have not received any suicide report in my policing area.

Such allegations are not true,” Molapisi cited. Molapisi raised a concern over incidents of this nature stating that in 2015 and 2016 they discovered two women who were murdered and dumped in the bush.
