Keikotlhae has left BAA

Keikotlhae was appointed to the post in January. His resignation comes a week after BAA president, Moses Bantsi, his vice, Ronald Masalila and secretary general, Kebaitse Legojane also quit.

BAA affiliates had passed a motion of no confidence on Legojane, but the move failed to garner sufficient votes and in what was seen as a protest, the trio then resigned.  Keikotlhae told Mmegi Sport yesterday that the prevailing situation at BAA forced him to quit.

He said despite being absent from the last annual general meeting, he learnt that Orapa Athletics Club, the side behind the motion of no confidence, was not comfortable working with him. He said he realised that the situation at the association was not conducive for a professional person to be productive.

“It was not comfortable working within such an atmosphere hence I decided to walk away.

They have passed a motion of no confidence on the secretary general and there is nothing that can stop them from doing the same thing to me,” he said.

Mmegi Sport was last week informed that plans were underway to remove Keikotlhae in the next BAA meeting.

Keikotlhae said the development was not surprising and he expected it to happen. He suggested that affiliates should avoid passing motions of no confidence on their executive committees as it hampers progress. He said even when they are not happy with their performance, they should allow them to complete their terms and during that period, they should give them support. He said in the end, they can easily remove them through elections.

Former BAA spokesperson, Ipolokeng Ramatshaba is expected to replace Keikotlhae.
