Township Rollers can open a seven-point lead tonight

The club has been struggling with finances in recent seasons and that was compounded when investor, Saeyed Jamali pulled out.

Meanwhile leaders, Township Rollers will have a chance to increase the gap at the summit of the log standings when they take on Mahalapye Hotspurs tonight in Serowe. Rollers lead the pack with 40 points after their comprehensive 3-0 win over Sankoyo Bush Bucks on Saturday.

The win saw them open a four-point gap between over second-placed Jwaneng Galaxy. Rollers collected six points in a space of four days. Hotspurs are fighting for survival having collected just 13 points from 18 games. They sit in position 15. Orapa United, who trail the log leaders by eight points, take on BDF XI in what is expected to be a thrilling encounter at Itekeng Stadium tonight. Both BDF XI and Orapa United returned to winning ways over the weekend. BDF XI defeated Green Lovers with a solitary goal while Orapa United beat Gilport Lions. Orapa United are third with 32 points from 18 games. Matebele are sixth with 27 points.

Kgatleng giants, Mochudi Centre Chiefs’ good run came to an end after being handcuffed by  Police XI on Sunday. Magosi have been on a roll since the beginning of the year and moved to the fourth position last week.

However a 3-1 loss at the hands of The Jungle Kings, saw them move to position eight on the log. Before the encounter against Police XI, Chiefs were unbeaten since the beginning of the year. They had played six games, drew two and won four matches. They had scored 16 goals in those matches after they walloped Nico United and Green Lovers 5-0 and 5-1 respectively. Chiefs now trail Rollers by 14 points.

Meanwhile, Nico United’s miserable form this year continued when they lost 2-0 to Security Systems. The Selebi-Phikwe based side is yet to collect a single point since the beginning of the year. They last won the match in December against other relegation candidates, Green Lovers. They then lost twice to Chiefs, Extension Gunners and Security Systems. They have so far managed to accumulate only 15 points.
