Gothaang’s life was cut short by a freak head on collision along Ntlhantlhe-Mogobane road on February 25. The accident claimed two lives. The Gunners chairperson sustained serious head injuries in the collision. ‘Prince’ as he was popularly known was travelling from Lobatse to Gaborone via the alternative Ntlhantlhe-Mogobane road to attend Gunners’s Open Day.

Different speakers described Gothaang as a highly ambitious man who enjoyed facing challenges head-on.

He was elected chairman of Peleng giants in 2015 and was also a member of Lobatse Bikers Club. The former police officer was described as someone who loved football, Gunners and life.

Botswana Football Association president, Maclean Letshwiti said Gothaang’s family was not the only one that lost but the football community at large had been robbed of a valuable leader.

“Not only has Gothaang’s family lost a very gifted leader. We met for a short period of time but he had already had an enormous impact on me. You could see just from a distance that there’s a leader in him. He was on a huge run, what he has achieved within 39 years is enormous,” Letshwiti said.

‘Prince’ who was also the CEO of Wayguard Security, was recently selected to head Rollers delegation in CAF assignment in Madagascar a week ago.

Coach Daniel Nare could not hold tears as he remembered his relationship with the Lobatse born administrator. Nare said he did not know how he would survive within Gunners without chairman’s support.

“I am saddened by the loss. I am the one who came to ask him to go and lead Gunners. He has been my backbone that I relied upon. Now that he is gone, I don’t know if that means I am also on my way out,” Nare said.

During his stay at Gunners, he facilitated contracts with investors including Tsa Gae Investments, trading as All Kasi to help amid Gunners financial challenges.

The club’s vice chairman, Hennel Kaisara described Gothaang as a determined leader. He said together with other team board members, they would ensure Gothaang’s dreams of seeing Gunners go back to glory days are realised. The deceased is survived by two sons.
