Gothaang passed on last Saturday in a car accident on his way to the club’s Open Day in Lobatse.

Speakers at the memorial service described Gothaang as someone who was very dedicated to issues of strategic management.

His uncle, Godiraone Gothaang said his nephew was someone who always wanted to finish whatever he was doing on time. He said Gothaang was a very dedicated person who paid for all his courses.

At the time of his death, he was working for Waygard Security. “When he told me that he wanted to join Gunners as a chairperson, I was skeptical because I never knew him to be a football person.

But he told me he was taking the challenge because he also believed football people always make a mistake of thinking only former players can run football,” he said. Gothaang was voted in as an interim chairperson for the club following the departure of Kitso Dlamini.

He was officially voted in last year at the club’s annual general meeting. “Gunners was like a family to him. He had big dreams for this club but he has done his part,” his uncle added.

The club vice chairperson, Hennel Kaisara said when he heard about the accident and the description of the car, he immediately got worried.

His worries were later confirmed. He however said they would march on as a club and take Gunners where Gothaang wanted to see it.

“As a committee we have an obligation to take the team forward and we will do that,” he said. Gilport Lions’ chairperson, Kelesitse Gilika who was speaking on behalf of the Botswana Premier League (BPL) board of which Gothaang was a member, described him as “vibrant”.

He said the BPL is vibrant due to Gothaang’s input. “Whenever there was an issue, he will address it or he will force the issue to be addressed right there,” he said.

Botswana Football Association (BFA) vice president, Marshlow Motlogelwa said Gothaang’s death is a great loss to his family and the football fraternity.

He said they are in the process of finalising the association’s strategy and were banking on the likes of Gothaang to be foot soldiers.

Gothaang was holding a Masters Degree in Strategic Management. During his short time as Gunners’ chairperson, he managed to strike a deal with Tsa Gae company, suppliers of All Kasi clothing brand, to manage the club.
