The game intends to encourage the public to take part in a campaign meant to reach 20,000 people to support gender equality in sport.

Speaking during the partnership launch between Township Rollers and Platinum Stars, the HEforSHE campaign champion, Solly Reikeletseng said they had to make sure that they meet all the requirements of both Botswana Football Association (BFA) and FIFA to play the match.

He said the BFA has permitted Rollers to play the match.

Marketing and public relations manager at International Working Group on Women and Sport (IWG) Boitumelo Kenosi told Mmegi Sport that the match between Rollers and Platinum Stars is meant to attract the public to support the mandate for HEforSHE.

Kenosi said the campaign aims to reach a target of 20,000 from both genders, therefore people are encouraged to sign and support the campaign.

Meanwhile the IWG secretary, Game Mothibi said before the game they are going to have a workshop for Rollers players for both the men and women’s teams.

She said players need to know why they are playing the game. “We want to make Rollers management and players great ambassadors of this campaign,” Mothibi said.

Platinum Stars chairman, Clifford Ramorwa said they will bring their regular first team.

“We will have some coaching clinics, our coach will interact with some of the local football academies or even some of your coaches may be before we play in the evening,” Ramorwa said. He said they would like to assist more clubs in the future.

Rollers president, Jagdish Shah said that he is happy that Platinum Stars accepted their request without demanding an appearance fee.  “Some other teams in South Africa were quoting about P1 million as an appearance fee, as for Platinum Stars they have agreed to visit at their own cost,” Shah said.

“Platinum Stars were ready and willing to help us at a minimum cost therefore we will only provide accommodation and food for the team,” he said.

Shah said he is looking forward to the game and would like to urge Batswana to come in large numbers. Rollers and Gaborone United women’s clubs will clash before the main match.
