Ambassador Moreti tipped as chief of protocol

The post has been vacant since Daphne Kadiwa’s contract ended with Ian Khama presidency. As Botswana High Commissioner to Kenya, Ambassador Moreti was responsible for the promotion of relations and country’s interests in Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Burundi and Rwanda.
Moreti is expected to assume his new role next month. “We understand the President wanted someone of Moreti’s calibre who understands him. Moreti has done political science at UB and he could advise him better when it comes to issues of politics. Again, the President did not want someone who is active in politics, especially that he is preparing for 2019 general elections. Mind you, Masisi has friends outside politics whom he takes their passive advice very serious especially the academic ones,” the source said.
Another insider revealed that the kind of people that Masisi want would be seen after 2019 general elections because he is forced to balance his friends in politics and those outside. In response to Mmegi inquiries over the pending appointment, Government spokesperson Jeff Ramsay said: “I only know that the post has been acted for. The Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation would know better”.
The duty of the protocol officer is to be responsible for all matters undertaken by the President, anything State-related like State visits, diplomats, consultation matters, welfare of nationals abroad and dealing with issues between Botswana and other States .
Moreti did Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and Political Science from University of Botswana and Masters of Arts in International Relations from University of Kent. Efforts to get comment from the Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation Unity Dow were unsuccessful. Moreti’s phone in Kenya was not going through.
