Op Advertising brings the event in association with Edouard Miasnikov Agency. Standard Chartered Bank, The Grand Palm Hotel and their media partners sponsor it.

When addressing the media about the event at GICC on Tuesday, Corporate Affairs and Brand Marketing Manager of Standard Chartered Bank, Kunda Neill said the event would pay tribute to great Russia composers Sergei Rachmaninov, Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Aleksander Borodin.

“The company is scheduled to arrive in Botswana as part of a six-city tour covering Johannesburg, Pretoria, Bloemfontein, Durban, East London, Port Elizabeth as well as Gaborone. This time they bring a wallet programme celebrating some of the most celebrated Russian composers who wrote for ballet and opera.”

“Highlights of their programme include Paganini (a one act ballet) scored by Rachmaninov, Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, scenes from ballets scored by Tchaikovsky Swan Lake sleeping beauty and The Nutcracker and Borodin’s The Polovtsian dance from the opera The Prince Igor,” he said.

Neill explained that Royal Moscow Ballet had toured around the globe presenting more than a thousand performances. He said the company consists of graduates of the best Russian choreography, ballet and dance schools premiered as the Royal Moscow Ballet back in August 12, 2002. Its founders are Anatoly Emelianov and Anna Aleksidze.

“In 2017, the Royal Moscow Ballet will be celebrating its 15th anniversary. The company has created more than 20 modern and 15 classical ballets. The ballets were created by choreographers, founders Emelianov and Aleksidze,” said Op Advertising Managing Director Francis Gleeson.

Gleeson explained that as part of the 2016 tour, the Royal Moscow Ballet made contact with local ballet schools in order to do a show in collaboration with the ballet schools for this year’s performance as part of the scenes of the Nutcracker ballet.

“We hope this will be the first of many more collaborations between the Russian ballet school and local ballet, a ballet school that has operated in Botswana for 35 years this year and the Northside School Ballet class. It is through cultural events that people are exposed to the arts and have an appreciation for diverse cultures,” he said.

He added that it was through events like that, that local performers and artists could observe an international performing group and learn how to take their acts across borders.

Gleeson pointed out that theyare proud to have Standard Chartered Bank of Botswana on board as a platinum sponsor of the 2017 Royal Moscow Ballet, especially as they celebrated their milestone of 120 years of Banking in the country.

He further thanked Grand Palm through Peermont Group for having faith in their unsponsored event in 2016 and for sponsoring the venue, stage, lighting and sound again for the 2017 years of banking in Botswana.

Tickets are sold at Grand Palm reception. They cost P250 standard and P500 VIP per ticket. Audience are expected to arrive at 6pm and the doors will close at 7pm.
