Hogs Grab 7s Championship

Hogs won the 7s title after beating Jwaneng 38-0 in the final. Hogs pocketed P5,000 while Jwaneng received P3,000. The marauding Hogs did not have mercy as they walloped UB Rhinos 24-0 in the semi-final.
On the other hand, Jwaneng crushed BDF Cheetahs’ dreams of retaining the cup by beating them 24-17 in the semi-final. Hogs coach, Jeremy Baggage said the game plan going into the tournament was to win it. “I had a team that comprised young and experienced players. I had a solid plan of making sure that they click and that is exactly what happened. My youngsters were able to run with the ball and enjoyed themselves,” he said.
Baggage said they were using the tournament to select a team that would play in Zambia. Jwaneng coach, Gofamodimo Mothibapudi said they wanted to revenge against Cheetahs for the loss they suffered at their hands last year. “That motivated my players and they showed no respect against the former champions. We knew their style of play. Last time we finished in position three in this competition, so this time around we knew what to expect,” he said.
Mothibapudi said playing against Hogs in the final was tough because some of his players had sustained injuries.
He said after two tries, his defence broke down and the entire team just gave up. Meanwhile, Hogs women’s team also snatched the title. The women side walked away with P3,000. UB Rhinos are the runners up with Golden Ladies finishing third. Rhinos got P2,000 while Golden Ladies received P1,000.
The tournament organiser, Modesto Madzambi told Sport Monitor that the games were a success. He said the teams gave their all and it was a good thing that Hogs walked away as the champions. “This shows growth of the competition, which is in its second year.
Our partnership with City Physio Clinic is important as they are assisting us in growing 7s in the country,” Madzambi said.
