Motlhagodi said some leaders are even confused and in some cases end up doing tasks that are supposed to be done by executive committee members. He urged churches to introspect before selecting their leadership to avoid future embarrassments.

Motlhagodi also blamed some of the church administrative management for taking over their pastor’s jobs. He said some even ridicule their bishops saying they are too old and uneducated.

“Nowadays people run churches based on their feelings. Let’s respect each other regardless of any situation. Let there be proper consultation amongst leaders and the executive committees.

OAIC is ready to teach all the church structures about leadership in order to have an effective leadership. It’s a pity because most of us are clueless and fear each other. Let us be focused,” said Motlhagodi.

Furthermore, Motlhagodi condemned factions that he said have reared their heads in churches just like in politics.

He said the factions negatively affect the growth of the African churches. Motlhagodi also bemoaned the mushrooming of African churches saying they are increasing because of greed and power battles.

“Research shows that every week a new church is registered in Botswana and that everyday there is a meeting held to discuss breaking a certain church.

This is just because of conflicts amongst churches, which are at times fuelled by people who disrespect their pastors. We must correct these anomalies and be transparent in everything we do,” said Motlhagodi.

“Each church leader must marry to avoid extra marital relationships which can bring conflicts within the church,” said Motlhagodi.

He also cried out that some people within churches are given positions based on friendship and corruption.

Motlhagodi also expressed displeasure about pastors who are fuelled by the lust of money to open churches. He also advised OAIC churches to pray for schools saying Botswana cannot be a county, which produces failures.

One of the attendants, Archbishop Joseph Molale said: “OAIC must also invite youth and other congregants to such meetings for them to hear for themselves and also visit us at our churches and conferences”.

Archbishop Masego Koobake on the other hand blamed the executive committees for failing to do their tasks, saying that is why they (leaderships) usually take over.

Bishop Rodgers Simon shared the same sentiments with Motlhagodi saying leaders should marry to avoid being involved in adulterous relationships.
