Chikomo’s side, United, walked into the final after walloping Township Rollers 2-1 in the second leg to win the semi-final 4-1 in aggregate.

Chikomo is the only player to have won three Top 8 titles since the tournament’s inception in 2012. He won two with his former side Gaborone United (GU) and the other with Orapa United last season.

He attained his first Top 8 gold when GU beat BDF X1 2-1 in the 2013/2014 edition and added a second the next season when the Old Naledi side beat city rivals Rollers 2-1.

His ‘Tse Ditona’ charm extended to Orapa United in the past edition when he played a pivotal role in helping the then Top 8 rookies to the titles with a 3-1 win over Rollers.

The Zambian who has established himself as a hardworking, bulldozing striker said his dream of achieving the record is closer.

“I am very happy I am this close to winning the Top 8 again,” he said. “I am looking forward to the next medal. It will be a tough ask for anyone to break this record if I put it at four.”

“We have showed a lot of character as a team, it’s not easy to beat Rollers twice. We are in a good position now and I believe it (Mascom Top 8) will be ours to lose. Galaxy is tough but we are a bit ahead of them in terms of experience.”

Chikomo said he is living the moment at Orapa United and is enjoying the challenges that come with playing for the Boteti-based club. He said although they have fallen a few places down in the league they are still in contention.

“I am enjoying myself here, there is no time for rest. We are focused on everything we play for. We have high chances in the league despite falling behind. There are still a number of games and we will give it our best shot. We cannot be written off just yet.”
