The shock move took place on Saturday after the annual general meeting, held in Gaborone, passed a motion of no confidence on Legojane. The remaining executive committee members are Brian Mosweu (treasurer), Olebogeng Oitebetse (vice secretary general), Charles Keikotlhae (public relations officer), Moses Raphutse (additional member-north) and Mompati Ngwako (additional member-south).

Speaking to Mmegi Sport, Keikotlhae said the weekend gathering was not an elective meeting.

He said some affiliates felt that Legojane was incompetent and should be removed from office. Delegates were asked to vote on the motion of no confidence, but the majority voted against the move.

However, despite the majority shooting down the motion, Legojane decided to step down and so did Bantsi and Masalila.

“The affiliates complained that they were not receiving information from BAA and it should not be the case. They blamed the secretary general for that. They accused the leadership of denying them opportunities to do IAAF courses,” he said.

Keikotlhae said the BAA constitution states that if the president or the vice are not present, the meeting has to be adjourned.

He said they would convene another meeting after 21 days to fill the vacant positions.

For his part, Masalila said he resigned because the motion that was passed reflected badly on the entire committee. He said the reasons that were put forward by the affiliates were not convincing.

“They claimed that there was no communication from BAA to the affiliates. This was one of those motions by power mongers. Despite the outcome, they refused to accept the results. I could not continue being part of such an arrangement,” Masalila said.

He pointed out that despite resigning, his hands are clean and he has nothing to hide. Masalila said he leaves at a time when BAA owes him but he knows that he would not be paid.

Meanwhile, Keikotlhae said the resignations reflect badly on the association.
