BFA struggling to pay salaries

The future of some of the 32 employees hangs in the balance, and BFA chief executive officer, Mfolo Mfolo admitted they are struggling.
“We are struggling to pay salaries,” Mfolo said yesterday. The dire financial situation at the association, which was said to be P6 million in the red in 2016, has forced the BFA to implement a restructuring exercise.
The exercise was expected to have been concluded in April, but has dragged on, with Mfolo saying they have now engaged a consultant to look at their operations.
“The consultant will come and look at our structure, including the pay structure. They will also look at issues of sustainability,” Mfolo said.
He said all three options; job losses, salary cut or redefining positions, were still possible.
However, all points to a shedding of jobs, as the BFA has persistently said salaries gobble up the majority of the grant from the government.
“Any of the three options are possible.
It is a serious pain.
We need to prioritise and employees should multi-task,” he said.
The BFA receives around P7 million from the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) as a grant, way below their budget.
The funds are channelled towards sustaining the secretariat, which in turn affects other operations and projects.
