Darkboy Masey unleashes mo ngwaneng

Darkboy Masey’s song comes during a perfect time when the ‘e reng mo ngwaneng’ phrase is already trending.

After featuring Mckenzie of Monate Potleng fame and popular South African house songstress Mpumi in his two previous singles, Darkboy Masey’s new single titled mo ngwaneng features Seven Step and Mozkhali.

With the new single, the talented producer told Arts & Culture that the song is a new sound, which is a sub genre of house called ‘amapian’. “It has a kwaito feel but dominated by piano or keyboard.”

The artist, who has worked with some of SA’s well-known and respected artists said this time he chose to work with the Pretoria-based artists, Seven Step and Mozkhali.  Seven Steps is a DJ and producer who have previously worked with Zulu Naja, Leon Lee and Jika Boys. Mozkhali is a dancer and vocalist who is part of a group called Sosh Boyzens and currently dances for Zinhle Ngidi.

Darkboy Masey’s previous single was different to his current sound considering that he is an artist who can tackle different styles of house music despite the lines of these styles being gritty these days.  The production gives the sound that fresh feel for a new age house that is trying to co-exist with today’s popular sub-genres of house.

The piano addition also ingrain the bright sounds of piano chords into the listener’s subconscious.  For a moment there, someone can forget that it is a house song until the vocals reminds otherwise.
