BNF resolute on congress resolutions

The BNF conference had resolved that the party should ensure that the process of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) constitution has been filed with the Registrar of Societies and its process is concluded within 21 days. Though the UDC had submitted it, they are facing challenges that some of its affiliates like the Botswana People’s Party (BPP) and Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) had written a letter to the Registrar to submit their grievance and objection to the new constitution.
Other UDC affiliates are the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) and BNF.
Yesterday, the BNF secretary general Moeti Mohwasa said, “We are pushing that this issue ends in 21 working days. If we fail to finish within a given time, then the party will go to structures to inform them about the challenges or what is causing the delay. The president is working around the clock to ensure that the resolutions are implemented and that everything is in order”.
Mohwasa said if it happens that they may face any challenges, the members would give the party direction.
The secretary general said the 21 working days end soon.
Mohwasa said the Registrar has not written to them regarding the letter that some had filed with them.
The BNF had also resolved that since BMD has not been responsive to bilateral talks with BNF to address the representation issues, they took a decision that there should be joint primary elections under UDC in all parliamentary and council seats allocated to the BMD in 2014, except where it holds incumbency.
If this fails, then BNF should assume the leadership of these constituencies and wards. The UDC congress would be the final arbiter if the above two do not succeed. However, the UDC president Duma Boko has not said anything since the BMD president Sidney Pilane went on radio rubbishing the filing of the new amendment of the UDC constitution.
