Nkate has since his return from his diplomatic post in Japan been publicly criticising the way his party has been doing some things. In one of his posts on Facebook, Nkate questions the BCL sale process.

“I find it shocking that we read about the sale of BCL and accept it without as much as a whimper.

I am saying the deal is bad but we, as the citizens and shareholders/ owners deserve information. A statement from the Minister perhaps,” Nkate wrote.

“What was the process, who is selling, govt or liquidator, price? These are just some of the questions.

Next will be BMC and Air Botswana.

I am not against privatization, but transparency is key when you are dealing with public assets,” he continued.

However he said in fact more democrats need to debate issues of national interest because if they do not they cede that space to opposition who then set the narrative.

“So his is a welcome addition to the voices of other democrats engaged in similar endeavour.

I don’t think he has attacked the party, rather he has given his take on issues already in the public domain,” Ntuane said.

He said he is after all a senior party member and knows the boundaries of what can be said publicly and internally.

On issues of by-elections causing disputes within BDP members, Ntuane said; “We are handling all by election issues internally.

Our aim is to reconcile democrats and let bygones be bygones so as to focus on the future as a cohesive force”.

This came after the Palapye branch committee wrote to BDP asking that disciplinary action be taken against some of its members who decampaigned the party during Boikaego ward by election.
