PPADB, whose mandate is to adjudicate and award tenders for central Government and any other institution specified under the act for the delivery of works, services and supplies, had the awards graced by the deputy Permanent Secretary to the President, Elias Magosi.  Magosi was the guest of honour where board members, awardees, management and staff, along with different media houses, were also in attendance.

In her welcome remarks, the executive chairperson, Bridget John said the PPADB strives to be a ‘higher performing’ organisation hence their vision to be “the centre of excellence in public procurement and asset disposal”.

“Our pursuit of quality service offered to our customers is further demonstrated by our certificate in the Quality Management System, ISO 9001:2015, the certificate we have upheld since November 2013 to date,” she said.  Throughout their service terms, the PPADB has been open to customer feedback and has continuously used it to improve and attend to whatever gaps were identified in the operation.

John added that the ceremony was to specifically recognise and appreciate men and women who have excelled in their work, contributing significantly to corporate performance, and thus excluding the management level officers from the awards.

“We have deliberately decided to exclude management level officers from the awards as we start the recognition programme. Over time the programme will be more inclusive and competitive,” she said, adding that the process of identifying awardees was transparent and participatory in nature.

Guest of honour of the evening Magosi commended the PPADB for their continued hard work and achievements they had made in serving customers. “I am pleased that PPADB has taken this essential step to celebrate success, particularly at a time when organisations and nations alike are fiercely competing for talent.  PPADB must also create a crucial role to identify, manage and retain talent and this is one way of actually earning that,” he said.

He also said that PPADB plays a pivotal role in the economy of Botswana as procurement is tied to stimulation of the Business Environment and creation of jobs throughout an improved expenditure in the development market.

Magosi further added that it is generally appreciated for any organisation to remain relevant and an attractive prospect for employees while it motivation and recognition are key essentials.

“We shall never underestimate the value of saying ‘well-done’ and ‘thank you’.”

In the awards category, the first was of best overall performance scooped by Opelo Tiboni, who combines her role of legal officer to that of principal procurement specialist, some of the few roles she performs at PPADB. Tiboni, who is also a lawyer by profession, dedicated the award to her legal team, saying that they have been supportive.

The second category was that of brand ambassador, which was awarded to Ponatshego Motaosane who joined PPADB as a public relations intern and assimilated into the organisation to the position of contractor registration assistant at the CF performer predication unit.
