BFA Chief Laments Disruptive Internal Politics

Mfolo did not mince his words when addressing the national women football special general assembly held over the weekend, noting that progress in the women’s game is hampered by internal politics.
The women football assembly met on Saturday to elect the new executive committee in a rerun election. A rerun was called by the BFA after internal investigations revealed that in the initial elections held in May, non-affiliated teams were allowed to vote.
“An appeal was brought before us after those elections. We made an investigation and indeed there were people who were not supposed to be there during the elections. But it started at the regions. Our regional structures should tighten administrative affairs. It is them who should send the names of the teams affiliated to us. We cannot have regions giving us names of teams that did not affiliate,” Mfolo said.
“We have a blueprint for women football in the country. We just need your support. We cannot be wasting time dealing with such issues while we have to run the game. The NEC has the support of the head of women football at FIFA, we have to turn the game around, we cannot be having this kind of meeting if people acted rational.”
Prior to the election process on Saturday, it emerged that one team had registered to vote but did not send the representatives, sparking fears that it was a way of rigging the elections on the day. However, Itsholeng Disang retained her position as the chairperson after edging out her closest rival, Tapaphiwa Gadibolae by 37 votes to 27. Disang’s team won all the seats on offer.
Moses Itseng was voted the vice chairperson while Joyce Madome was elevated to the secretary general position when Otukile Moruakgomo withdrew after they were held on a tie with 30 votes each.
Boago Gaboitsiwe assumed the vice secretary role with Ntebogang Tsetsi assuming the treasurer’s seat unopposed. Kabo Maxala and Onkemetse Bailelwang were voted as additional members.
Meanwhile, the Female Zebras reported for camp yesterday to kick start their preparations for the COSAFA Women’s Challenge scheduled for later this month. A pool of 27 players were selected by head coach Gaolethoo Nkutlwisang including South African-based goalkeeper, Sedilame Boseka.
