Babitseng took over from Hennel Kaisara who has been the chairperson of the Lobatse giants since the passing of former leader, Phenyo Gothaang.

His success in the election comes at a time when the club is battling financial problems, which have been attributed to the team’s below par performances in the league. Before the elections, Babitseng promised to hit the ground running as soon as he gets elected and push for privatisation of the club.

Speaking to The Monitor’s sister publication, Mmegi last week, Babitseng said good ideas have already been thrown around in the past. He said the new committee would just have to implement those ideas.

“We just have to hit the ground running from the word go and implement those ideas. Key amongst those ideas is the transformation of this club from society into a company. We have to bring in investors. The only thing we need to do is sell this brand to them,” Babitseng said on Thursday.

Alex Masie has been voted as the club’s president while Tapela Boti will serve as the vice chairperson. Former Botswana Boxing Association spokesperson, Willough Kemoen is Gunners’ new public relations officer while Itumeleng Seemo is the treasurer. Mavis Mosweu is the secretary with Moemedi Ramontshonyana and William Chipura serving as team manager and welfare manager respectively.

The first assignment for new committee will be to prepare the team for the upcoming season scheduled to start this month. Gunners have already lost their enterprising midfielder, Mothusi Cooper to Township Rollers. Cooper was instrumental for the Peleng giants last season. Mandla Mgadla has also left while striker, Francis Olaki will miss the start of the season with an injury.

At Mochudi Centre Chiefs, Raymond Tsheko who has been serving as the vice chairperson was on Saturday voted the new chairperson. He took over form from Ernest Molome who will now serve in the committee as an additional member.

Clifford Mogomotsi who is the longest serving spokesperson for the club is now the new vice chairperson. Lebogang Seboni is the secretary while attorney, Reuben Lekorwe will act as his vice. The rest of the committee members are Chunki Megale (treasurer), David Seleke (team manager), Ridwell Moremi and Bakgethwa Motlhabane (additional members).
