The club, through its vice chairperson, Hennel Kaisara confirmed Gothaang’s death through a Facebook post yesterday. Gunners were expected to release a media statement yesterday on details surrounding Gothaang’s death.

“The PRO of Extension Gunners Football Club Edwin Mabapa will release a Communiqué of the passing on of the chairman, Mr. Prince Phenyo Lekgotla Gothaang yesterday in a road accident. He was travelling from Gaborone to Lobatse to attend Extension Gunners open day.

I can confirm that myself, The PRO, The VSG, the Welfare Manager, Chairman of Gaborone West branch and All Kasi representative Mr. Ian Kebopetswe met the family yesterday after the PRO confirmed with Athlone Hospital. We then confirmed with Lyns Funeral Parlour in Lobatse with the family with the help of Woodhall police.

It should be noted that the family granted us the right to inform Gunners Family and Batswana. However, we don’t have control over social media, which normally goes viral and we always hope for the best and expect the worst. The nephew learnt about the sad news on social media and informed the family, sad indeed.

The accident was a head on with a government vehicle and his vehicle is a right off. People will be informed about further developments by the PRO,” Kaisara said on his Facebook page yesterday.

Gothaang, who was chief executive officer at Wayguard Security, was elected Gunners chairperson in December 2015.
