Doosan Donate Educational Plan To Underprivileged Child

The company adopted the boy (whose name cannot be mentioned for his protection) back in 2016 and has been taking care of his living expenses. Doosan met him at House of Hope while paying their benevolent call some two years ago. House of Hope is a day care centre for orphans.
The young boy is in his final year of preschool at House of Hope and will start his primary schooling next year at Serorome Primary School.
Doosan has paid P8,000 study plan for the seven-year-old. The money covers his school uniforms and development fees for the seven years. Doosan’s site project manager Him Cham Kim handed the cheque to the school head, Kgomotso Kgosiepelo last week.
Kim said the company would continue to provide for the child and it would also extend the plan as the child progresses. He said the company’s stay in the country is coming to an end as the project they have been servicing is reaching conclusion.
However, Kim said over the period he has been close to the young child, he has developed a fatherly bond and the distance will not bar his relationship with the child.
“Doosan has made a commitment that we would take care of him and we want to see him go as far as possible,” he said. “He is a special boy and he calls me father. I can’t neglect my child. I will ensure he is well taken care of even if I am not home with him.”
He said the company has been taking care of his livelihood but they have figured that the young boy needs foundation; hence they paid for his studies. “We cannot give him food forever, one day he will be a grown man and he must know how to catch his own fish. That is why we want to ensure he studies and becomes a knowledgeable man.”
When his parents passed away, he was left in the care of his grandmother, who solely survives by the old age pension scheme. The granny, who also cannot be mentioned for the child’s privacy, acknowledged Doosan’s benevolent gesture. “We have been blessed with this support from Kim and his company. They have assisted us at home and we are happy that they continue to support Anthony in his studies. I am very thankful for the child,” the grandmother said.
The school head Kgosiepelo also appreciated the gesture and promised that the school together with the Parent Teachers Association will ensure that the money is spent for the specific reasons. He said they welcome the child to the school and she promised that they will make his stay fulfilling and productive.
