The 18-year-old former Mater Spei College learner trails a student from St. Joseph’s College who has nine straight A*s and an A.

When the brilliant student studied for her Form Five final examinations, she aimed to conquer the whole country and true to her dream, she finds herself amongst the country’s BGCSE 2016 top achievers. “I am over the moon that I managed to get straight A*s in all my subjects which is a dream come true. But I am so worried that I couldn’t scoop the overall first position in the whole country,” she said.

She added that her aim was to conquer BGCSE so that her next path to tertiary becomes even smoother as she would be spoiled for choice in her pursuit for the prestigious tertiary institutions. Charlie is very proud of her performance, which will certainly provide an entrance into her next career.

“I must admit that it was not a simple journey as I had to push and work even harder. I had to wake up at 3am so that I study with a fresh mind.  I had designed a study time-table with a study group which was the main supporting act to my achievements,” she said.

She further said she preferred to have few friends so that she could concentrate more on her studies. She also cautioned against social media, which is destructive and a waste of valuable time.

Charlie said she kept book where she wrote summary of her notes from different subjects and spent most of her spare time in the library reading and researching matters related to her studies. She advised her colleagues who did not make it to stay strong, focused and should not despair but make use of the opportunities such as writing supplementary examinations.

She also encouraged the students to believe in God and pray harder because God provides everything. Charlie plans to pursue A-levels and venture into a career, which will benefit the country’s development. Her overjoyed mother Rebecca Charlie said that she is happy about her daugher’s achievements.

“We were expecting nothing less than her final BGCSE grades because she has been performing well ever since Standard One,” she said.

She disclosed that her daughter has always been an A material, describing her as a respectable, dedicated and hard working young woman who has a bright future.

Rebecca said that her daughter made her the proudest mother in the whole world.

Mater Spei College school head, Joseph Munyere described Susan as a very disclipined, wonderful and enthusiastic student.

He said that Charlie planned well for her studies and approached each subject with the sense of confidence and maturity. “As a school, we instill a behavioural pattern and boost the students self-esteem and confidence which makes them believe that they are going to excel in their studies,” he said.

Munyere further said that over the past years they managed to have top achievers from their school but Charlie has conquered them all.

The school head said that apart from being an intelligent teenager, Charlie is also a marvelous sport person, who played table tennis for the school.

Charles Keikotlhae of the Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) Corporate Communications Office, said that the top achievers’ names would be officially released after six weeks when all queries have been taken into consideration. “Currently the student who is in first position is from St Joseph’s College,” Keikotlhae said yesterday without shedding more light.

A BEC website has this week only listed a St Joseph’s College student with nine A* and an A as the top most student followed by a student from Mater Spei College with nine A*s without names.
