Moringa has been used for centuries for its medicinal properties and health benefits, and Batswana will soon enjoy moringa products thanks to Moringa Technology Industry situated in Tlokweng.

The company launched moringa instant porridge, moringa noddles, moringa tea, moringa nuts and moringa flowers tea.

Moringa has been scientifically proven to contain twice as much nutrients and micro nutrients than some foods consumed on a daily basis.

It is believed that its plant leaves contain seven times the vitamin C found in oranges, four times the calcium in milk, four times the vitamin A in carrots, double the protein in milk and three times the potassium in bananas.

It also contains minerals such as ash, making up to eight percent, protein 16.66% oil 1.70%, and fibre at 3.45%.  It also contains magnesium, sodium and phosphorus. The company’s managing director, Benny Motswasele told The Monitor that they will soon supply Batswana with moringa products, noting that Moringa tree extracts are beneficial in that they boost the immune system, at the same time promoting metabolism.

“Moringa also promotes cell structure of the body, normal function of the liver and kidney, proper digestion and promotes a healthy circulatory system.

“As a country rich in diamonds unlike other people who calls it the miracle tree I call it a ‘green diamond’ because it is an all-in-one herb,” he said, stating that they are currently waiting for their products’ certification, before hitting the shelves.

Motswasele said moringa has been identified as a healthy plant to be consumed by people with high blood pressure, kidney disorders and is believed to treat asthma. He said that everything in moringa tree is useful starting from its leaves, branches, flowers and seeds.

“Its branches or what remains after use can be crashed to make fertiliser or livestock feeds,” he said.

He stated they not only boost the country’s economy by hiring Batswana just as they will also cure the nation and make people healthy. “When people are healthy, they will be productive at work hence contributing positively to the country’s economy. We plough moringa here and we will surely need more labour when we start our supplies which means more locals will get hired,” he said.

Motswasele revealed to have also established the market for their products as far as Japan, USA, China and South Africa.

“We are planning to approach South African Bareau of Standards because we have established that there are so many opportunities in moringa products. I am calling on Batswana to be ready for our products and utilise them to stay healthy,” said Motswasele.
