Rari is reading sinister signs in the latest policy measures

According to Rari’s deputy, Ketlhalefile Motshegwa, the federation has “strong information” that Government is hatching a plan to dismiss Rari from work in the same way ‘I was dismissed’”.

Motshegwa was dismissed from his job at the Francistown City Council in mid-2015.

Yesterday, Motshegwa said Rari was likely next.

“This follows Government’s continued militancy against trade Unions, which has resulted in violation of trade Unions and workers rights, persecutions of trade Unionists’ rights and draconian amendment of labour laws,” he said.

Mmegi is in possession of a Savingram distributed to all education offices and schools threatening to take action against school heads and chief education officers who release Union members for Union work.

The Savingram says permission for release should be sought only from the Public Service Management director or the Ministry’s permanent secretary.

“No school head, or chief education officer should give such permission. Chief education officers and school heads will be held accountable if they continue giving such permission,” the Savingram from the director of regional operations reads.

BOFEPUSU believes the savingram was crafted specifically for Rari, a Naledi Secondary School teacher.

Motshegwa said it was clear that Government had a scheme to boot out Rari, as previous statements had suggested a plot to “deal with Union leaders”.

DPSM officials were unavailable for comment by press time yesterday.
