BPL to push for changes in appointment of chairperson

The BPL will attempt to push through a motion that seeks to amend the constitution and see the appointment of the BPL chairperson picked from competent candidates, even if they are not in the board. “We have a motion, which seeks to amend Article 12.5.2.3 of the constitution regarding the appointment of the BPL chairperson. The proposal is that the constitution be amended to allow the BPL Board to appoint any person, even if she/he is not a member of the board,” Thabo Ntshinogang said.
Top-flight clubs have shied away from tabling a motion that seeks to reduce the 16-team league, to ensure sustainability in the face of limited financial resources.
The meeting’s delegates will also keep an eagle eye on the financial report, after it was not presented at the previous meeting.
Last week BFA chief executive officer, Mfolo Mfolo said the financial report would be presented.
Delegates would be keen to see if the association has made progress in erasing a reported P6 million deficit, which was inherited when the Maclean Letshwiti administration took charge in 2016. Meanwhile, Ntshinogang has said BPL new comers; Notwane, BR Highlanders and Prisons XI will attend as observers and not full delegates, as per the norm.
“(They will not be delegates), not according to what has been prevailing over the years. BFA invites new members as observers. This has been the norm.
For instance, last year, all the newly promoted clubs (Santos, TAFIC and Sharps), didn’t attend as Premier League representatives,” Ntshinogang said. Former president, Ian Khama will officially open the assembly, for the first time since he took over as patron. BFA president, Letshwiti will also give a state-of-the-association address.
