Technical Teams
A very good technical team is the backbone of a successful season, which is why most sides are beefing their technical teams ahead of the new Premier League season.
Orapa United have roped in Mogomotsi ‘Teenage’ Mpote from Rollers and will act as an assistant to coach, Bongani Mafu.
Mpote remains one of the most successful local coaches despite spending the majority of his elite career as an assistant coach.
At Rollers, Nikola Kavazovic has got his long-term apprentice, Marko Vaseiljevic to join a technical team that has Thabo Motang and Leutlwetse Tshireletso.
However, it is a different scenario for GU and Chiefs. The Reds are yet to appoint a head coach and will be led by club legend, Stephen Maposa while at Magosi, it is not clear who will lead the side following the departure of Pontsho Moloi and Maxwell Moyo. Innocent Morapedi is likely to lead the side from the dugout.
Goal Fest
The preseason tournament has never failed to bring goals and fans hope that the trend continues. Fresh on the fans’ mind would be the Rollers’ 7-1 thumping of Extension Gunners in the then Kabelano Charity Cup in 2014.
The last high profile preseason tournament in 2015 produced 10 goals in just three games, making an average of 3.3 goals per match. Rollers at the time beat Gunners 2-1 in the semifinal while Chiefs overcame Sankoyo Bush Bucks 2-0.
In the final, Rollers were victorious over Chiefs with a 3-2 score line. This year’s tournament boasts of high profile goal poachers amongst them the Ostriches’ trio of Omaatla Kebatho, Jerome Ramatlhakwana and Christian Epoupa.
The list also has Joel Mogorosi and Tumisang Orebonye of Rollers.
Reunions
A number of players will be facing their previous teams. Midfielders, Jackie Mothathego and Mandla Mgadla would be facing their former side, Chiefs in GU colours while Gosegonna Molapisi, Thato Ogopotse and Neo Kenalemang will be facing the Reds in Chiefs’ famous black and white. In the other semifinal, Orapa United’s Kobamelo Kebaikanye, Ramatlhakwana, Obonye Moswate and Mpote will be hoping to book a place in the final at the expense of their former employers, Rollers.
Popa’s newly signed trio; Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Orebonye and Jackson Lesole, may face GU if both sides proceed to the final.
