This follows the heavy rainfall that has covered many parts of the country. A statement from the ministry says that travellers at Pont Drift are using cable cars to cross but the water level is very high.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Office  (NDMO) has issued a warning that due to the ongoing heavy rainfall some villages have been affected by flooding; North East, Nkange, Lobatse, Ramotswa, Kanye, Tlokweng Moshupa, Goodhope, Mahalapye and Mochudi.

“The total number of households affected at the present moment is 184 households and with the rains continuing there is likelihood of more areas to be affected. Assistance being rendered by the different Disaster Management Committees include evacuations to safer ground, tents, blankets and food baskets,” says the statement from NDMO.

NDMO urged the public to cooperate with the various stakeholders engaged in the response efforts.

“Parents staying in such areas are also especially encouraged not to allow their children to play or go near flood waters. They must remain vigilant at all times. The public is also advised that should they require any assistance due to possible flooding in their areas, they must contact the local District Disaster Management Committee, Police, Kgosi or any local leadership in their respective areas”.
