James Freeman was the toast of the competition, which attracted over 400 swimmers from 13 countries, after bagging nine medals in a record breaking performance.
According to Botswana Swimming Sport Association (BSSA) communications and marketing officer, Timothy Maje, Freeman set new time in the boys (15-16 years) 200m butterfly with 2:13:68 and the individual medley where he clocked 2:17:97.
Botswana had sent 16 swimmers (five boys and 11girls) to the competition held in Bulawayo from February 16-19.
“The team performed very well despite challenges, which included among others limited number of swimmers to compete due to financial constraints,” Maje said in a media statement.
Botswana finished sixth out of the 13 countries with 1014 points while hosts Zimbabwe dominated the meet and finishing first ahead of Zambia and South Africa.
Freeman won nine medals including six gold and three bronze, while Michelle Jack grabbed a bronze, the same as Andile Bekker while Maxine Egner got two silver and a bronze.
