Moatlhodi was speaking at a well attended Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) campaign rally here on Sunday.

He urged their UDC candidate, Kenneth Segokgo, to present the motion once he is elected to Parliament. Segokgo will be challenging the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) candidate Elijah Katse in the by-election.

“Batlokwa’s biggest challenge is shortage of land. Both youth and elders are crying to be allocated residential plots. Segokgo will listen to you on this motion.

It will not be the first time that the Government has negotiated with individuals and companies to buy land from them for people,” Moatlhodi said.

He continued; “it’s time the Government helps Batlokwa to find land for their farming. That on its own will help the Gaborone City Council on livestock that is always roaming the city”.

He said there is nothing that Batlokwa could be proud of if they do not have land. Ruretse is a farm formerly owned by the late President Seretse Khama located between Oodi and Tlokweng.

On issues of education, Moatlhodi said students who have not done well in their junior certificate examinations (JCE) should either be made to repeat or given courses that they could do better on.

“There is no need for students who had not done well in JCE to be taken to senior school. A student who has failed Form 3 cannot pass Form 5 and this is affecting standards of our education. Again we expect teachers to do miracles where unnecessary. Let’s be realistic,” he said.

Another speaker and also the former speaker of National Assembly, Margaret Nasha said it is a shame that the BDP has turned against their words, which they put at the forefront during 2014 campaigns for job creation. “The BDP has promised Batswana on their cards that they will create jobs.

Now their speeches say something else and leave Batswana with no hope. People should not vote a party like that. The BDP programmes have failed and proper accounting on them needs to be done,” Nasha said.
