Deloitte is also said to be engaged to audit the troubled health facility and are expected to produce a report in six weeks. This was after BLH Board suspended its hospital’s CEO, Moagi Mmitsi and the Bamalete Lutheran School of Nursing (BLSON) principal, Martha Mothibe. It is now more than four months since the two had been suspended. Both Mothibe and Mmitsi have not appeared before any disciplinary committee, a source said.
BLH Board chairperson, Phenyo Segokgo said he heard the issue of DCEC in corridors.
“I am waiting to be briefed on it. On other issues, I cannot comment because they are internal”. The Monitor has learnt that the Board will be meeting on September 22, 2018 to assess the audit report if it is out.
Efforts to get a comment from DCEC Phakamile Kraai were futile.
Two months back, the hospital Board said they had appointed a team of six, two from the hospital and four from outside to conduct the investigation. However, the Board has been cagey about the outcome of the first investigation, and if indeed maladministration was there or not. The Board had wanted neutral people to conduct the investigations into the matter. It felt that some people were compromised,” a source said, emphasising that the Board was seeking a proper and thorough probe into the BLH and BLSON books.
Some employees of BLH had written a letter to the Office of the President (OP) and the DCEC to look into allegations of corruption and malpractice at the BLH and the School of Nursing. The employees wrote the letter to the OP appealing for help, citing gross mismanagement at the institution.
DCEC had submitted a report to the Board about a number of things, including that the management allegedly gave a company a tender without following the procurement process worth P500,000 or more.
The report also found that there were a lot of maladministration issues at the hospital that the Board should attend to.
It also recommended that the Board should set up a disciplinary committee.
