Motlakase Power Dynamos, who were third before the weekend, held Highlanders to a 2-2 draw in Mahalapye in an encounter that saw both sides lose ground on the leaders.

Sua Flamingoes took advantage of the Highlanders-Motlakase draw and rose to third after a nine-goal thriller where they beat giant slayers, Real Movers 5-4 to leapfrog Motlakase.

TAFIC interim coach, Elias Chinyemba was happy with the result but was concerned with the wasteful display. “It wasn’t pretty and we could have done much better. We created a lot of chances but we failed to make them count,” he said. “There are no easy games these days and we are happy we have managed to get maximum points. Satmos is a young team full of running and they closed our spaces.”

Satmos started the game resolute like a team up to cause an upset only to crumble in the later stages of the first half. They had studied their attacking opponents well and relied on offside traps to frustrate the home side, which they did well in the beginning.

It took TAFIC 34 minutes of constant attacks to break Satmos’ resistance. Uyapo Thibathuwe posted a cross from the left to pick Michael Murirwa at the far end who cushioned into the 16-yard box and Mooketsi Mampori poked home to hand his side the lead.

Five minutes later, Murirwa was clipped inside the box when he was about to pull the trigger and the referee pointed to the spot. Satmos goalkeeper, Morambiwa Ndlovu saved the resultant spot kick.

Thibathwuwe made the game safe with the second in the 64th minute when he walked the ball into the open net to seal the three points.

The other notable weekend winners were Morupule Wanderers who continue to make their way up the log. Major David Bright’s Wanderers beat ECCO City Greens 1-0 to move from position nine to eight. TASC and Maun Tigers played to a 1-1 draw, while Great North Tigers and Chobe United game was postponed.
