When addressing the media today, BNF secretary general Moeti Mohwasa said an update would be sent to the party structures to brief them about the latest development.

He said UDC has not received any objection correspondence from other affiliates about the constitution rather they read it from the newspapers. Mohwasa, who is also the UDC spokesperson, said the Registrar of Societies would deal with the matter because he is guided by the Act. UDC affiliates include the BNF, the Botswana Congress Party (BCP), the Botswana People’s Party (BPP) and the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD).

On other issues, he said the BNF and the BCP bilateral talks have gone well but would not disclosure the details saying they are, as BNF, still to engage the BPP and the BMD on issues affecting them.

“We are hopeful that an amicable solution will be found soon. The central committee has resolved that there be a team building retreat on September 8 for the committee. This is aimed at bringing cohesion within the leadership,” he said.

On yet another issue, the BNF Women’s League vice president Norah Nkwe said their committee has taken a resolution to campaign for all women who will be contesting for council seats on general elections.

“We do not have any woman who is contesting for MP seat or seats in the coming elections but that mistake will not happen again. Our aim is to encourage women to contest for elections especially parliamentary one in the coming years. The problem arose because some of our structures had collapsed,” Nkwe said.
