Montsho tested positive for methylhexaneamine at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. The 35-year-old recorded 54.49 seconds after Lydia Jele won the race in 52.86 seconds. Cristinah Botlogetswe settled for second position after recording 53.04 seconds in the intensely contested race.

Montsho said she was happy with the way she ran adding that her main aim was not to compete for a position but rather work on her endurance.

“I am happy with the way I ran the race looking at the fact that I just completed a two year suspension. My main aim was not to compete for a position but rather work on my endurance. I am happy with my fitness and from here I am going to work on speed and I think I will perform much better in the next race,” Montsho said.

The 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medallist and 2011 World Champion said the weather conditions were a challenge as they ran against the wind.

“We had a challenge of wind and the rain. That has also affected the race,” she added.

National athletics team coach, Mogomotsi Otsetswe was equally happy with Montsho’s performance since they were not competing for a position but rather he was observing few aspects on the athlete.

“She ran quite well. We were not here for the top position, but I wanted to see some things on here including her endurance and I am happy about it. We are going to work on her from here. I think she will meet the qualifying times for international competitions,” Otsetswe said.

In other competitions, Jwaneng athletics club runner, Boitumelo Masilo reigned supreme in the 400 metre race after he outclassed other competitors winning the race in 46.51 seconds while Onkabetse Nkoboto followed him in 47.58 seconds. Zaacharia Kamberuka crossed the line two seconds later recording 48.42 seconds.

In an interesting men’s tussle for 100 metres glory, Karabo Mothibi finished first in the 10.51 seconds while Xholani Tlalane and Ditiro Sebele finished in 10.59 and 10.63 seconds respectively.
