“Our ladies, aged between 20 and 30 years, have being taught women empowerment. We expect them to share what they have been taught with other women out there. If every woman would empower the next woman with the little knowledge, this country and the world at large, will be a better place for everyone. This will inspire young women to work hard and be self reliant,” the pageantry director Rentse Maganu-Ugokwe told Arts & Culture in an interview.
She added that the contestants are expected to be ambassadors of their communities, where they would be able to take care of the less privileged members of their societies. The organisers plan to host a high tea event and call in different motivational speakers to inspire and empower the finalists with life and entrepreneurship skills. Maganu-Ugokwe stated that the ladies would visit Kotolaname Primary School with the aim to motivate the teachers who are working under depressing conditions. She explained that the school had previously highlighted that they wanted more uniforms, a vegetable garden and to paint the school.
“We will be going to Lephephe/Otse where the beneficiaries of the three one-bedroomed houses stay. We want the ladies to get to know those people, how they live and what they need. This will assist them to develop the spirit of compassion,” she said.
Maganu-Ugokwe said that the rooms would cost P25,000 each, and therefore called on the relevant stakeholders, including the business community to assist with these projects where possible. She said the queen, with the assistance of other contestants would spearhead these projects under Rentse Foundation.
She is of the belief that building those one-bedroomed houses was a good gesture because it meant they would be able to provide a roof over the heads of many families, unlike when they used to build bigger houses. She said that gave her satisfaction knowing that those poor people living in dilapidated houses, no houses at all and or worn out tents, have a roof over their heads.
“This pageant is not only about beautiful features, but beauty with a good heart. We are looking for young women who have a good heart and can take care of their community. At Rentse foundation, we believe that sharing is caring,” she said.
As part of the pageant, she added that the winners would offer women operating in small-scale businesses; street vendors and other women operating small businesses skills that would help them grow their businesses.
The grand finale would start at 7pm. Tickets are sold at P250 for early birds, P350 for regular ticket with a complementary bottle of wine, P500 standard inclusive of wine and dinner, P1,000 or P5,000 corporate tables inclusive of dinner and wine and P1,000 for VVIP which includes presidential balcony seats with dinner and wine. All the proceeding will be used on charity.
Trinity Mpho will treat the audience with a special performance. The sponsors include Mmabana Media Centre, Aquarian Tide Hotel, African Home Lodge with the Grand Palm Hotel being the major sponsor.
