Sesinyis incredible form steers Galaxy

Sesinyi

A failed move to the South African Premiership and a reportedly broken down relationship with his former club, Orapa United, appear to have galvanised the lanky striker.  His exploits at Orapa United last season caught the eye of South African clubs although the move failed to materialise. He joined Galaxy at the start of the season and has turned them into championship candidates.

Out of 16 Premier League matches played this season, Sesinyi has scored 10 goals and leads the charts ahead of the likes of Township Rollers’ Terrence Mandaza. His first league goal this season was against Nico United in his side’s third league match where they won 2-1. He then went onto score against Green Lovers. Like any other player, he faced a goal drought and missed the target in three consecutive matches although his side continued to do well.

Thereafter, he scored in every match that his side played including the first leg of the Mascom Top 8 semi-final against BDF XI.  Out of the last six matches for his team, Sesinyi has scored eight times.

He kicked his onslaught in the 4-1 demolition of Extension Gunners where he scored a single goal.  Black Forest were next on his menu and he slotted two goals past them in the 3-0 victory.

It was Black Forest’s first loss of the season. Rookies, Mahalapye Hotspurs also received two from the skilful forward before his solitary strike awarded Galaxy a win over Sankoyo Bush Bucks. He rescued a point against Gilport Lions last week with a goal after Lions took the lead and were looking to break Galaxy’s impressive run.

He was on target again last weekend when Galaxy thrashed hapless Hotspurs 4-0.

Sesinyi attributes his performances to the welcoming environment at his new team.

“I did not take long to adjust to the team’s play. Maybe because I knew most of my teammates here at personal level before I came here. It was like my second home. The transition from my former club was smooth,” Sesinyi told Mmegi Sport yesterday. The skilful striker aims to continue doing well for his new team. He says his aim is to do better than he did last season when he was still at Orapa United.

“At Orapa United I usually played around 30 minutes every game. Here I am getting more game time and it really shows I am developing,” explains Sesinyi. With 16 league games played, Sesinyi’s performance has made him one of the contenders for both the Green Boot and the Player of the Season awards.

However, he said he would prefer to see his side win silverware so that they can celebrate as a team. His dream is still to move abroad and play in more advanced and competitive leagues. “I just need to continue working hard and play according to my coach’s instructions,” he said. His coach, Mike Sithole is also impressed with his performance.

“He is enjoying his game. We just need to keep managing him so that he keeps up the momentum,” he said. Sesinyi’s goals have steered Galaxy to the summit of the log standings with 32 points, one ahead of Rollers who have a game in hand.

Victory against Sankoyo Bush Bucks this weekend in Maun will see them stretch the lead to four points with Rollers involved in CAF assignment tomorrow.

Galaxy did not only show their intentions of challenging for titles by acquiring the services of Sesinyi; they also brought in Mike Sithole to lead the team. Sithole who has proven before that he has the formula for winning titles, brought along his assistant, Michael Mogaladi.

The two worked together at Mochudi Centre Chiefs where they won the 2014-2015 league title. They found a team boasting of talented and experienced players among them Lesego Lubinda, Tebogo Sosome, Tebogo Sembowa and Thero Setsile.  Midway through the season, Sithole is now raising his hands again among other title contenders. He currently leads his rivals, Teenage Mpote (Rollers) and Madinda Ndlovu (Orapa United) with a point and four points respectively.  Ndlovu is also looking to win his first league title as Orapa United coach. Mpote on the other hand has been given the platform and opportunity to prove himself at Rollers following the departure of Mark Harrison who won the league last season.
